What is an assessment?

An assessment is an expert opinion pursuant to § 6 para 2 of the Recognition and Assessment Act (Anerkennungs- und Bewertungsgesetz – AuBG), which describes foreign higher education qualifications and certifies their possible uses on the labour market. For more detailed information on possible professional uses, assessments also refer to the relevant areas and sub-areas of the AMS Occupational Information System (AMS Berufslexikon - Bereiche / Branchen), which lists a large number of specific professions, as well as to the information on professional recognition procedures provided at www.berufsanerkennung.at, so that more in-depth information can be accessed if required. This facilitates the use of foreign higher education qualifications on the Austrian labour market and supports employment that is appropriate to the level and field of the qualification. An assessment serves as a comparative classification but does not constitute formal recognition. It does not give rise to any legal claims and does not provide any statements on the use of foreign academic degrees in Austria.
